2010 Endorsements:

Tom Rees, State House District 35B in August 10 Primary

Conservation Minnesota Voter Fund (CMVF) has endorsed former State Representative Tom Rees in the August 10 Republican primary election for District 35B, covering the communities of Savage, Jordan, Elko and New Market. Rees is challenging incumbent Representative Mark Buesgens.

CMVF's decision was based on Rees's outstanding legislative record as a conservation champion, as well as his extensive background as a conservationist, according to Paul Austin, CMVF Executive Director. "Tom Rees knows that being a good steward of Minnesota's lakes, lands and rivers is a fundamental value shared by all Minnesotans," said Austin.

"Tom reflects the conservation tradition of President Theodore Roosevelt who founded our national park system. Tom recognizes that millions of Minnesotans connect with the outdoors by visiting our outstanding state park system, and he'll be a strong champion for ensuring that this legacy is passed on to our children and grandchildren," Austin said. "Mark Buesgens said on the House floor that he wants to close and sell off the state parks. His radical approach is seriously out of touch with Minnesota values."

Austin noted that in 2009 Governor Tim Pawlenty signed a law making Minnesota the first state in the nation to ban bisphenol A, a toxic chemical, from baby bottles and sippy cuts. "Tom Rees is a strong supporter of this ban because he understands that nothing is more important to Minnesota families than the health and safety of our children. Mark Buesgens was one of only five representatives who voted against this common sense approach to keeping our kids safe."
